Investing.com — U.S. president Joe Biden has formally announced that he will stand for re-election in 2024.

In a promotional video released on Tuesday, Biden stressed his desire to protect the “personal freedom” of American citizens.

“Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours,” Biden said in a statement.

Biden reiterated a central message made during the 2020 presidential campaign, claiming that the U.S. is facing “a battle for the soul” of the country.
